-2.5mm knitting needle of choice (9' circular, Magic loop or DPN's)
-Stitch markers, At least 3 with 1 being a unique beginning of round marker
-Scissors
-Measuring Tape
-Darning Needle
Abbreviations:
K- knit
P-purl
ST-stitch
STS-stitches
BOR-beginning of round
PM-place marker
SM-slip marker from left needle to right needle
SSK-slip two stitches from the left needle to the right needle knitwise, then knit them together through the back loops.
K2TOG-insert your right needle into the first two stitches on the left needle at the same time knitwise. Pull the working yarn through both stitches at the same time.Slip the two loops you decreased through off the left needle to finish the stitch.
MC- Main Color
CC-Contrast Color
SLP- Slip 1 stitch from left hand needle to right hand needle without working it
Pattern:
Pattern is written for 9" circulars, but you may use whatever method you wish.
CUFF:
CO 56 (64, 72) STS, Join to work in the round & place your BOR. marker
Row 1-3: With MC *K1, P1* across
Row 4: With MC K all STS
Row 5-7: With CC *K1,P1* across
Row 8: With CC K all STS
Row 9-11: With MC *K1,P1* across
Row 12: With MC K all STS
Row 13-15: With CC *K1,P1* across
Row 16: With CC K all STS
Row 17-19: With MC *K1,P1* across
Row 20: With MC K all STS
Work the following colorwork chart 7 (8, 9) times respectively for size S (M, L)
The chart is read right to left, bottom to top.
Row 1: With CC *SLP 1, K1* across half the total ST count (total of 28 (32, 36) STS worked), turn
Row 2: With CC SLP 1, *P* across the STS worked in Row 1, turn
Row 4: With MC *SLP 1, K1* across all heel flap STS, turn
Row 4: With MC SLP 1, *P* across all heel flap STS, turn
Repeat rows 1-4 for a total of 7 (8,9) times or 28 (32,36) rows
HEEL TURN
You will temporarily move your BOR until all gusset decreases are worked. You will need to mark this new BOR no matter what method you are using to knit your socks.
With MC K half of the STS on the heel flap, place marker, this is now the BOR.
K across remaining STS. Pick up 14 (16, 18) STS down the side of the heel flap. Pick up one extra ST to close gap. PM
K across the next 28 (32, 36) STS (top of foot). PM and then work 1 extra ST before picking up the 14 (16, 18) STS up the other side of the heel flap.
K across to BOR.
Round 1:
K until 3 STS before first non-BOR marker, then SSK, K, SM
K until next marker. SM, K1 K2TOG
K until you reach BOR
Round 2:
K all STS slipping makers as encountered
Repeat Rounds 1-2 until you are back to your original total ST count of 56 (64, 72)
You may now move your BOR marker back to its original position
K until desired foot length is reached & cut MC yarn
Toe Decrease
You will work the following rounds, but be switching colors 3 times
Color Sequence for Size S (M, L) respectively:
Row 1 through rows 9 (10, 11) work toe decrease with the color yellow
Rows 10 (11, 12) through row 15(17, 19) work with the color orange
Row 16 (18, 20) through row 19 (22, 24) work with the color white
So For Size S (M, L) there will be :
9 (10, 11) rows of yellow
6 (7, 8) rows of orange
4 (5, 5) rows of white
Toe Decrease Repeat:
While staying within the color sequence stated above:
Round 1: K 1, SSK, K until 3 STS before marker, K2TOG, K1, SM, K1 SSK, K until 3 STS before marker, K2TOG, K1
Round 2: K all STS, slipping markers as encountered
Repeat rounds 1 & 2 for a total of 19 (22, 24) rows
When last row is reached cut yarn and Kitchener stitch together.
Weave in ends & block!
